Testimonials
Whether a relationship is that of student and teacher, medicine practitioner and client, or that of a priest and a person seeking guidance, the dynamic of the relationship can have as much impact as the information conveyed. Below are testimonials of a few of the many students Greg has worked with over the years, as well as his peers, to help draw a picture of how it feels to work with him.

Review of Greg Casey’s Instruction of Qi Gong and and Tai Ji Quan (Yang 24)
I came to Greg Casey’s classes with an eclectic and fragmented history of exposure to both Qi Gong and Tai Ji from several different teachers in as many different cities. While loving the core spirit and philosophy of both disciplines, I had never felt particularly competent to practice extensively on my own. I recently retired and moved to the Asheville, NC, area. I have found Greg’s teaching approach to be open and accessible to practitioners of widely varied experience, strength, and flexibility. From my prior experience studying these forms as well as Chinese culture, I recognize in Greg – despite his apparent youth from my perspective - a well-grounded understanding of the core energy and belief that informs these traditions. Within a few sessions, if supplemented with personal practice, most practitioners will enjoy enhanced flexibility/balance and reduced stress. Greg not only teaches the basic physical forms but explains, clearly and simply, the extensive spiritual and medicinal wisdom out of which both exercise forms evolved. His teaching style allows ample space for each student to develop and experiment at his or her own pace and rhythm. Participation in these courses should be rewarding for both the beginner and the seasoned practitioner. I recommend that beginners first try the Qi Gong class, and if they persist and progress, that they add the Tai Ji Quan experience after getting comfortable with the fundamentals of the former.

I have attended Qi Gong, Tai Chi and Kung Fu classes on and off for the past 20 years in many places on the east coast and Greg Casey is by far the best teacher I’ve encountered. He has a passion for these teachings that shines through but has also studied the history and principles extensively as an acupuncturist. He is an amazing resource to not only learn the forms but to understand the intention behind the movements. He communicates this in an open way and in a warm, welcoming environment for everyone. All of this enables students to connect to these ancient teachings in modern way that makes it easy to understand and make part of your life. I leave each class feeling calm and energetic with techniques I can practice at home to make this a bigger part of my life.

My name is Nora and I studied the Yang 24 Tai Ji form under Mr. Gregory Casey during the summer of 2012. I obtained a blue belt in Tae Quan Do when I was younger and learned a 118 posture form of Tai Chi in later years, both in Dallas, Tx. Recently, I studied Wu Dang Tao Box Form in the Wu Dang Mountains of China under the Taoist priest and martial arts master, Master Yun Xiang Tseng, known by his Taoist name "Chen".
In addition to my direct experience in learning martial arts forms from great teachers, I also have expertise in learning principles and practices. I have a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design and a Doctorate in Adult Education. With this being said, I would like to provide testimony to the quality of teaching I have received from Greg Casey.
Mr. Casey is a knowledgeable, dedicated, and very effective and caring teacher. He beautifully demonstrates and explains each posture in the series we are learning that day. He then repeats the postures with me following along, all the while succinctly describing the moves. At the end of the sequence, he provides guidance and feedback in a very encouraging and supportive way. He enhances my understanding of the moves by taking the time to explain the intent of the postures and the unique challenges of executing each one.
We then repeat the series of postures together. This time, Greg concentrates on guiding and improving my specific skills. Always in a supporting and encouraging manner. We repeat specific postures that are still not clear to me until we both feel that I have demonstrated that I “understand”. When I have a problem or question, Greg is always receptive and responsive. He gives full attention to the issue and we work together in its resolution.
Greg is dedicated to my success. Every new day of learning is built on the last with refinements made all along the way. The encouragement and reviews are always there. I am never uncomfortable about my inabilities or my low skill level. He openly and honestly shares his knowledge and skills for me to exceed.
I encourage anyone, young, old and in-between to study Tai Ji under Greg Casey. Your life will be enhanced, not only by learning Tai Ji, but also by the student-teacher relationship that will unfold. Greg doesn’t practice Tai Ji, he lives it.

Over the course of the past 20 years, I have had the good fortune to study under a number of fine martial arts and chi kung instructors. Each has had something valuable to offer, but I believe Gregory Casey is a particularly remarkable teacher.
As a licensed acupuncturist, he has a profound and very well-rounded understanding of the medical and energetic aspects of the Taoist arts. He brings this knowledge into each of his lessons in a way that is clear and digestible even for those with no background in such matters. Perhaps more importantly, Gregory has a wonderfully calm demeanor which comes through in his very patient and caring style of teaching. He also possesses the rare ability to present the material he teaches in a logical and orderly fashion while also keeping his classes loose and organic. In short, I have found Gregory Casey to be a superb teacher of Taoist martial arts, and I would highly recommend him.

Daoist Traditions Students
After one of the semesters I taught the didactic qigong class to acupuncture students enrolled in the graduate program at Daoist Traditions College, administration had the students write reviews of me as teacher of the class. They only did this one of the numerous semesters I taught, but here are the reviews I got from that semester.
Awesome. Finally a teacher of qi gong at school who truly embodies the practice. - Thorough and engaging. - Greg did a great job leading the class. We learned different styles and forms of practice other than the Tai Yu Shen Gong which made class interesting and more enjoyable. - I would recommend keeping the class the same way as he taught it this semester. - Greg is awesome. He brought in interesting readings from Daoist texts for us to listen to at the beginning of class. He was knowledgeable and gave good instruction about qigong. - Greg is so awesome, and I hope he continues to teach our qi gong class until we graduate. He's really good at explaining the purpose of the movements and offering details to get more out of them. I also enjoyed our exploration into other movement styles. - I thoroughly enjoy having Greg as a teacher. He provided quite a bit of supplemental information and also introduced us to new styles of practice. I'm really looking forward to having him as an instructor again next semester. - Greg is great. - Greg is awesome and we are lucky to have him! - Great job.
Daoist Traditions Classmates
At the end of our four years together as a cohort going through the Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts graduate program, my classmates and I were given the opportunities to write reflections on each other to share with each other. The following are reflections I received from my classmates.
My favorite memory of you was watching you catch fall leaves after our first semester herb mid-term. It was drizzling and very windy and you were out in the front yard with Jennifer making sure not to take things too seriously. I really appreciate your commitment to staying as present as possible, and the harmonizing effect that you had on our class dynamic…quick to smile, to listen, to help out.
I know that the pace of school and the rigid schedule and expectations have not suited you, but you have managed to adapt to it. I am sure that as things slow down this summer you will have access to more of the self-contained moments of quiet you need to balance it all out. I know you will thrive going forward, and help many people do the same.

You have been the steady state, the open heart, the embodiment of gentle grace and steadfastness in our class. Thank you for your leadership in our class. I'm grateful to have shared this journey with you and wish you abundant goodness in our next pursuits!
-
Cultivation, self containing, mindful.
-
Watching you do Tai Ji in the garden during breaks brought us all a little more peace at school.
-
You were able to bring the joy of the Dao to Daoist Traditions. Sometimes I would loose the perspective and everything felt so intellectual. But then, I would catch the sight of you in the yard playing with qi. Thank you for your playfulness, your simplicity and your great love for what you do. It was great to watch you grow with it.
-
I have always been so inspired by your dedication to Qi Gong and Tai Ji. Watching you spend your break cultivating while the rest of us snack and talk is inspiring. I can’t wait to see how you make your acupuncture practice and your Tai Ji practice come together as one, now that you are free to do whatever you like! I hope you come to Seattle one day to do a big Tai Ji class because I have always wanted to study with you and just never been able to make the time. But now! We have all the time in the world.

Greg, thank you for the easy and flowing energy that you have contributed to our class dynamic. It has been beautiful to watch your dedication to your practice, and to see glimpses of how your practice has evolved over four years. I think that you made a good choice and have truly connected with the heart of this medicine we are exploring and sharing. I have a lovely memory from our first year watching you catch leaves under the big tree in front of 382. It was the stressful day of our first herb exam and the lighthearted playfulness was a nice reminder not to get too wrapped up in the self-created anxiety of school and testing.
-
You are grounded and peaceful, and hold the space for others. I find you caring and calm with a strong inner light. You have a beautiful qi gong practice. I hope you will continue to teach others about qi gong and the benefits of Chinese Medicine.
-
Quiet peaceful nature.

Greg, I'm so glad we got to be clinic partners our first semester. You hold such a healing presence both in and out of the treatment room. I love the way you think about the points and how you always have a Jeffrey quote or something else spiritual to add. Your constant practice of tai chi and qi gong is inspiring to see dedication at work.

I still can remember you introduced yourself to me when I was transferred in during 2nd year. Your warm welcome, your beautiful Tai Ji postures, your moderate pulse all come up in my memory. Your strong connection to Wu Dang Mountain and Daoist martial art and spiritual cultivation all amazed me. I feel that you have “ling xing” 灵性 in your spirit and will contribute a lot to be a bridge between eastern and western culture in the future. Best wishes to you and your future endeavor! So grateful to have you in the class!
