Gregory M. Casey
Knowing your teacher and the background from which they are sharing their knowledge helps to feel confidence when you plant the seeds they’re offering in your own garden. Greg’s own cultivation in Daoism, martial arts, and the practice and teaching of Chinese medicine has been a process he’s devoted his life to, and he lives in constant gratitude for all of the teachers he’s had on his path. In this he is never static, but constantly learning, cultivating, and evolving himself in a process that continues to this day. His background draws on the experiences and insights of every lecture he’s attended, every patient he’s treated, every student he’s taught, every meditation, qigong, and martial form he’s trained and practiced… and it’s all synthesized in one kind, caring, and gentle practitioner and teacher.
Gregory M. Casey is a Daoist priest and practitioner and teacher of Chinese medicine, meditation, qigong, and internal martial arts.
Greg belongs to two Daoist Priesthood's under his Sifu, Jeffrey C. Yuen. Within the Yu Qing Huang Lao Pai (Jade Purity Yellow Emperor Lao Zi Order), which is a sect of the Shang Qing Pai (Highest Purity Lineage), Greg belongs to the 89th Generation, and his Daoist name is Jyun Wai. Within the Longmen Pai (Dragon Gate Order), which is a sect of the Quan Zhen Pai (Complete Perfection Lineage), Greg belongs to the 27th generation, and his Daoist name is Gao Rui.
Greg met Jeffrey during his time as a graduate student at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC where he earned his Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Degree (2010-2014). Greg attended Daoist Traditions specifically because of his interest in Daoism and the opportunity to study with Jeffrey there, and was offered the opportunity by Jeffrey to become his disciple after 6 years of studying with him.
Greg also holds an Associate Degree in Mathematics and Sciences from SUNY: Adirondack (2007-2010). Greg is certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is a Licensed Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine where he provided home visits, private office treatments, and rendered more than 2000 treatments in a community acupuncture setting, along with teaching weekly qigong and Taijiquan classes in 2015-2016, before moving back to North Carolina from 2017-2023. where he was offered a teaching position at his alma mater, Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts. During that time he taught various classes to students enrolled in the Masters Degree Curriculum, including Acupuncture point location, needling techniques, qigong, and more. He also worked there for over 5.5 years as a Clinical Internship Supervisor, teaching and guiding student interns through all the intricacies of patient intake, diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment administration, herbal prescription formulation, and lifestyle counseling.
Greg has taught public and private classes on Chinese medicine, meditation, qigong, & Daoist gongfu through Mystic Dao off and on since 2013. He has done this in various settings including at parks, conferences, exercise studios, private lessons, and as faculty in didactic college settings.
His first taste of teaching was in 2008 when he was offered by his 2nd Tai Chi teacher, Professor Li of SUNY: Adirondack to be his assistant teacher. Since then, his love of learning, training, and teaching these sacred ancient arts/sciences has driven him to continue practicing and sharing to this day.
He’s been invited to speak about qigong and meditation to neuroscience students at Brown University, invited to teach qigong at Medicines of The Earth Conference in Black Mountain, NC, numerous years in a row, until he moved away, and inspired numerous individuals to pursue higher education in Chinese Medicine for themselves.
He is a classically trained acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist, and expert in applying a healing presence and providing personalized acupuncture treatments, herbal formulas, qigong, lifestyle and dietary guidance for improved healing and wellness to his patients and students. Gregory draws heavily on the teachings of Jeffrey Yuen, having attended thousands of hours of oral lectures from him since 2010.
Greg’s lifelong dream is to establish a non-profit temple space as a self-cultivation and healing sanctuary for the study, practice, and transmission of meditation, qigong, martial arts, acupuncture, and more!
Greg’s interest in Chinese medicine grew out of his interest in Daoism, which in turn was brought on from his lifelong interest in martial arts, naturalism, philosophy, and spiritual cultivation. His martial arts career began as the youngest of 3 brothers, then some Karate when he was about 9 years old, then some Aikido when he was 15. He has practiced various systems of Chinese and Daoist gongfu including meditation, qigong, and Taijiquan including forays into Yang, Chen, and Wu styles of Taijiquan starting in 2007, when he was 18-years-old. Since 2012 he has focused his martial arts practices to those taught in the Wudang Sanfeng Pai, having studied most with Master Bing (15th generation Priest) in the areas of Qigong, Taijiquan, Liangyiquan, and Baguazhang, Master Chen (14th generation Priest) in the areas of qigong, Taijiquan and Xingyiquan.
He has also been fortunate to learn various qigong and martial forms from Jeffrey Yuen, including a very rare Daoist monastic style from Hua Shan, Wuxingquan “Five Element Fist”. Jeffrey in turn inherited Wuxingquan from his Grandfather, Master Yuwen, of the Jade Purity Lineage.
Greg has also been an avid gardener and naturalist since his teens, and has worked in the past as Daoist Traditions College Herbal Gardens Supervisor.
Greg practices and teaches at a rare intersection of spiritual, martial, and medical applications. He has a fluent understanding of the human energetic channel system including “primary” channels, sinew channels, luo vessels, 8 extraordinary vessels, and divergent channels in relationship to acupuncture, herbal medicine, stones, essential oils, qigong, internal alchemy, and martial arts. His breadth of knowledge is founded in years of study with Jeffrey Yuen, and expanded on by his years of self-cultivation, clinical practice, and teaching within these areas.
No matter what modality is being utilized, he always maintains a focus on treating the individual.
Greg lives with his wife, son, dogs and cat in his home state of Rhode Island.
